The Huts

In a woodland clearing in the Black Mountains, a collection of shepherd huts provide off-grid accommodation for small groups of adventurous travellers.

Designed to have minimal environmental impact they offer warmth and comfort in a remote setting for groups of up to eight people.

The fully insulated huts, sleeping 4-8 people are arranged around a central stone firepit with BBQ grills.

Each hut has a spacious double bed. Welsh blanket drapes, wood burning 'hot pod' stove and solar powered lighting. Bedding, blankets and towels are available as an optional extra or you can bring your own if you would prefer.

The communal utility hut has a kitchen with a wood-burning oven, fridge and cooking utensils. At the back of this hut is a modern WC and shower. The Huts in the Hills are perfect for those looking for glamping in Wales.

If you are a larger group The House in the Hills is just a 5 minute walk away which stretches the sleeping to 20 persons, for a weekend to remember!

Badgers, hares, pheasants, buzzards, kites, foxes and bats all make homes near the huts. Each hut is named after a wild animal or bird that you can expect to see or hear during your stay.

2 dogs are welcome by prior arrangement.

All the huts are fully insulated and designed to be cosy, comfortable and environmentally sustainable. A wood-burning stove provides hot water for the kitchen and shower room. A hybrid system consisting of a wind turbine and solar panels provides power. Water is supplied by a nearby natural spring. Grey water is treated via a compost toilet and sand filter. Biodegradable soaps and cleaning products are provided. To avoid contamination of the stream, only these biodegradable products can be used at the huts. Recycling facilities are provided.

The Huts are hidden away in the hills, complete with mountain stream running alongside and the expanse of the Brecon Beacons Dark Sky Reserve overhead. This is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular locations in the National Park. Hay Bluff and Offa’s Dyke are just behind you on the hill, and Hay on Wye and the River Wye with pubs, restaurants and great independent stores… as well as more than a book or two, can be found just a few miles away.

You are offered exclusive use of four fabulous shepherds huts sleeping 8 people. When you come and stay at The Huts you have exclusive use of the site. Each hut has been hand built on site, using traditional building methods and inspired by the authentic shepherds huts that were once a key part of farming on the uplands.

The site is off grid, with power generated by wind and solar energy and a healthy supply of firewood providing ample fuel for cooking. The fully insulated huts are arranged around a central stone firepit with BBQ grills.

Each sleeping hut is designed for two, with a spacious double bed, Welsh blanket drapes, wood burning “hot pod” stove and solar powered lighting. There are well selected local reads, a stack of essential games (Jenga, Monopoly, Scrabble etc) and a hand made oak table and Lloyd Loom chairs too. The design works really well for families, as everyone has their privacy, yet there is a wonderful feeling of shared space too. Linen is included, but please remember to bring your own towels.

The Utility Hut, the hub of cooking and showering in style in the great outdoors, comes complete with Esse stove, Fridge, proper washing up and cooking equipment and hidden discreetly at the back, has a fully functioning hot water shower room with WC.

Two dogs are welcome by prior arrangement.
